About Sadie McCarney

Sadie McCarney is a Canadian poet author of Head War who won the 2021 Oscar Wilde Award for Work Celebrating Non-Conformity at the Island Fringe Festival. It has now been transformed into a short film, to educate and enlighten diverse audiences about the realities of living (and thriving!) with mental illness. Her full-length books are Live Ones (University of Regina Press, 2019; tall-lighthouse uk, 2020), Your Therapist Says It's Magical Thinking (ECW Press, 2023; winner of the 2024 Prince Edward Island Book Award in Poetry and shortlisted for the J.M. Abraham Atlantic Poetry Award), and The Bright Afters (ECW Press, forthcoming in 2026). Her work has appeared in places including Best Canadian Poetry, The Walrus, Canadian Literature, EVENT, Foglifter, The Malahat Review, The Fiddlehead, CV2, Lunch Ticket, and Grain; in 2023, I won Grain's Short Grain Poetry Contest.
