About Fred D'Aguiar
Fred D'Aguiar is a British-Guyanese poet, novelist, and screenwriter. He teaches English at Virginia Tech. He was born in London, spent time in Guyana, his parents' country, and trained as a psychiatric nurse. He then earned a degree in Afro-Caribbean Studies from the University of Kent, Canterbury. He began a thesis on a Guyanese author, Wilson Harris, and then developed a passion for creative writing. He moved to the United States and taught at Bates College, Lewiston, Maine (Assistant Professor, 1994–95) and at the University of Miami, where he taught English and Creative Writing. He is now a Professor of English and Co-Director of the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Virginia Tech. He wrote poetry and novels: The Longest Memory (1994), Dear Future, Feeding the Ghosts (1997) and in French Les cris de l'Océan, Bethany Bettany (2003).Browse all poems and texts published on Fred D'Aguiar
