About Kwoya Fagin Maples

Kwoya Fagin Maples is an African-American poet author of Mend (University Press of Kentucky, 2018), which was a finalist for both the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award for Poetry and the Housatonic Book Award for Poetry and the chapbook Something of Yours (Finishing Line Press, 2010). Mend was also a finalist for the Robert Dana Anhinga Poetry Prize. Her work has been published in several journals and anthologies, including The African American Review, pluck!, The Birmingham Poetry Review, and The Sow’s Ear Poetry Review. Maples received a grant from the Rockefeller Brothers Foundation. She is a Cave Canem Fellow and a Homeschool Lambda Literary Fellow. Maples teaches creative writing at the Alabama School of Fine Arts.
