About Elana Wolff
Elana Wolff is a Canadian poet, essayist, translator, editor, and teacher. Elana Wolff has published several books of poetry as well as a collection of essays on poetry. In 2001, she published her first collection of poetry, Birdheart, with Guernica Publishing. She subsequently published Mask (2003), You Speak to Me in Trees (2006), Startled Night (2011), Everything Reminds You of Something Else (2017), and Swoon (2020), also with Guernica Publishing. In 2010, Wolff published an essay entitled Implicate Me with Guernica Publishing. In 2013, some of her poems were translated from English by Stéphanie Roesler and published by Éditions du Noroît under the title Helleborus & Alchemilla, which won the John Glassco Translation Prize (2014).Wolff is also co-editor with Malca Litovitz of an anthology of poems entitled Slow Dancing: Creativity and Illness, Duologue and Rengas (Guernica Publishing, 2008). In 2012, she published a second anthology, this time in collaboration with Julie Roorda, entitled Poet to Poet: Poems Written to Poets and the Stories That Inspired Them. Elana Wolff is also a translator. In collaboration with Thor Polson and Menachem Wolff, she translated from Hebrew to English A Hunger Artist & Other Stories; Poems and Songs of Love (Guernica Publishing, 2014).
Her writing has appeared in several Canadian, American, and English-language journals. In addition to being a finalist for the Acorn-Plantos Prize (2007), Elana Wolff is a recipient of the F.G. Bressani Prize for Poetry and the GritLit Award (2008), as well as the Canadian Jewish Literary Award for Poetry (2020).
