About Hilda Conkling
Hilda Conkling, born October 8, 1910 in Catskill-on-Hudson (New York State) and died June 26, 1986 in Northampton, was an American poet. She published three collections of poems during her lifetime: “Poems by a Little Girl” in 1920 with a preface by Amy Lowell, “Shoes of the Wind” in 1922, and “Silverhorn” in 1924. Her poems also appear in the anthologies “Silver Pennies” in 1925 and “Sing a Song of Popcorn” in 1988. Long before her first book, she was published in magazines such as Poetry: A Magazine of Verse, The Delineator, Good Housekeeping, The Lyric, St. Nicholas Magazine, and Contemporary Verse. Most of Hilda's poems are nature-themed; sometimes simply descriptive, other times with elements of fantasy.
