About Danez Smith

Danez Smith is an African-American, poet, writer and performer. They are queer, non-binary and HIV-positive. He is the author of three poetry collections Homie, (Graywolf Press, 2020), which was a finalist for the 2020 National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry and the 2021 NAACP Image Award for Poetry; Don’t Call Us Dead (Graywolf Press, 2017), which was short-listed for the National Book Award; and [insert] boy (YesYes Books, 2014) which was a finalist for the 2017 National Book Award for poetry.
Danez's poetry and prose has been featured in Vanity Fair, The New York Times, The New Yorker, GQ, Best American Poetry and on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Danez is a member of the Dark Noise Collective.
