Sir Elton Hercules John, born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25, 1947, in Pinner, Middlesex (England, United Kingdom), is a British-American singer, pianist, songwriter, keyboardist, and actor. In addition to the piano, he plays the Hammond organ, harpsichord, harmonium, mellotron, synthesizer, and more. He even released an album on which he sings exclusively: Victim of Love in 1979. He entrusted keyboard duties to Thor Baldursson and Roy Davies.
A global pop icon, Elton John, with over 300 million records sold, is one of the world's best-selling artists, spanning a career spanning fifty years. In 1993, he broke Elvis Presley's record in the United States by having a new single in the US Top 40 for the 24th consecutive year. In 1997, his song Candle in the Wind 1997, a cover of his 1973 song, became the best-selling single since the inception of the charts, with 33 million copies sold. Other well-known hits include Your Song (1970), Levon (1971), Tiny Dancer (1972), Rocket Man (1972), Don't Go Breaking My Heart (1976), I'm Still Standing (1983) and Sacrifice (1989). Bernie Taupin wrote the majority of his lyrics, while Elton composed the music.
